Your Vision, Not Mine

A reader asks:

I’m stuck at this point in the painting. What should I do next?

It’s hard for me to help with a painting once you have started. The best I can do is provide technical pointers, but it’s your vision, not mine.

I don’t know how you saw and experienced the subject…. what your first impressions were… how you envisage the finished painting… what your big idea is.

Once you start, the best person to trust is yourself. Outside voices will only muddy your vision. Even if those voices are more experienced.

If you’re struggling with a painting, try to see it through to the end. Consider what the problem is and try to solve it. Then assess your efforts and ask for pointers if needed. If it doesn’t work out, that’s ok. There’s always the next painting.

Happy painting!
