I’ve never actually watched a full episode of Dr. Who, but anything that mentions van Gogh is sure to spark my curiosity.
It’s one of life’s cruel jokes that van Gogh endured such hardship and illness, yet today his work hangs in our most prestigious halls and museums. Perhaps that’s part of the appeal—his work represents a deep contrast between pain and “ecstatic beauty”.
The Dr. Who clip provides a look into how van Gogh might react to his ill-timed fame and fortune. I found it extremely moving; hopefully, you do as well.
