Student’s Comments:
What I like:
1.) I am quite pleased with the overall mood of a quiet sunny autumn walk in the woods nearby our home.
2.) I like the contrast of deep shadows of trees in the foreground and bright sun light in the background (low key foreground, high key background)
3.) I think I succeeded to create a good sense of depth by applying linear and areal perspective.
What could be improved for next time:
1.) I would like to have more color variation in the foreground.
2.) I am continuously working (and still struggling) to achieve a more painterly style.
Dan’s Comments:
Hi Walter!
What I like:
- Interesting composition! I love the play between the trees, cast shadows, and slanting ground.
- Strong and simple color theme.
- Did well not to get caught up in the tiny details. Nice use of simplification.
What could be improved for next time:
- Look up the work of Tom Thomson for inspiration. Your work reminds me of his.
- The shadows/ground looks a bit even and “neat”. Though I’m not sure what it looks like in person. Sometimes nature looks like this, but not often.
- A few dark accents and color spots might work well, particularly on the ground.
